DENTON — For almost 25 years, the Town of Denton has held the holiday parade, this year is no different.
On Thursday hundreds of residents of Caroline County gathered on Market Street to see dozens of Caroline County businesses, municipalities, first responders and community nonprofits at the parade.
While the parade is held in December, the Town of Denton starts planning the parade six months in advance.
“It involves all the departments of Denton, doing something with it and help with lineup and that kind of thing,†Denton Town administrator aide Lisa Orendorf said. “Usually after each event we meet to see what worked and didn’t work so we can improve it every year. Everybody kicks in in the town when it’s lineup day.â€
This year the town of Denton made improvements for the traffic flow before and during the parade.
“Our big thing was lineup stuff,†Onrendorf said. “Just making sure we had more people to help direct the people the night of to get where they need to go. That always is an issue, and we don’t want people to go the wrong direction. So it’s always helpful to have as many hands as possible helping that during the night.â€
Judges for the parade are selected by the town by new leaders or new position holders of businesses, nonprofit organizations and municipalities throughout the town.
This year the judges were George Karos, executive director for the Caroline County Arts Council; Stefanie Johnson, executive director for His Hope Ministries and Angel Perez, marketing director for Aaron’s Place.
The judges chose North Caroline High School for best marching band, Lockerman Middle SGA and Honor Society for best float, Pure Country 4-H club for second best float, Meineke Car Care for automobile favorite and Eclipse Cheer Elite for best use of lights.
