CAMBRIDGE — The Cambridge Ice & Oyster Festival returns for its fifth year Jan. 16-17 with ice sculptures, oysters and activities celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
The free event runs 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, in the parking lots behind Chesapeake College in downtown Cambridge from Cannery Way to Blue Ruin Plaza.
Master carvers will create dozens of three-dimensional sculptures from more than 400,000 pounds of ice, with live demonstrations throughout the weekend. A new walk-through ice maze Âé¶¹´«Ã½ returning attractions including an ice slide, mini golf putting course and graffiti wall.
Raw oysters and other preparations will be sold by the Dorchester Seafood Heritage Association and regional oyster farms including MadHouse Oysters, Choptank Terrapin Oyster Co., Madison Bay Seafood/Farm Creek and Coastal Maryland Oyster Co. Craft beer, cocktails and hot chocolate will be available, with fire pits for roasting s’mores.
Live music will be featured on two stages. A synthetic ice rink at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina will offer additional winter activities, with free shuttles running between the rink and downtown festival.
The Rescue Fire Company Train Garden will be open during the festival.
The event is presented by the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay resort and produced by the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce and Ice Lab with support from Cambridge Main Street and Dorchester County Tourism.
