CAMBRIDGE — A 44-year-old man was fatally electrocuted Monday after a crash in Cambridge, according to police.
Armond Hayward III, of Cambridge, was found dead by authorities at the 600 block of Locust Street on Monday night. Around 7:45 p.m., police responded to the scene for reports of a vehicle crashing into a building.
The Cambridge Police Department said in a press release that a pick-up truck crashed into a front porch. Officers "observed a utility pole split in half and lying in the middle of the street with hanging wires," the press release stated.
Around 25 feet from the scene, police discovered an unresponsive Hayward, who was later pronounced dead.Â
"Officers recognized that there were downed electrical wires which were still energized and believed that Mr. Hayward was electrocuted," the press release said. Witness reports corroborated that determination, according to police.
Delmarva Power and other first responders arrived on scene alongside police. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
