CAMBRIDGE — Wednesday around 6 a.m. the Cambridge Police Department received a call regarding a collision at the intersection of Gay and Poplar Street involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
According to police Capt. Shane Hinson, the pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The extent of the individual’s injuries is unknown.
“It was an intersection-related accident. We don’t think that there were any contributing factors there other than, you know, it was early morning, it was still dark out,†Hinson said.
All four CPD officers on duty responded to the scene. Due to the severity of the accident, the Maryland State Police crash unit was called to assist with the investigation and reconstruction. Several units from the state police later arrived to support the effort.
The accident remains under investigation to determine the cause.
