EASTON — Two men were flown to Shock Trauma on Wednesday afternoon following a serious three-vehicle accident on Route 50 in Easton, according to police.
The Easton Police Department said it responded to a crash on westbound Route 50 and Chapel Road at around 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday.
A 66-year-old man was taken by helicopter to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with “life threatening injuries,†police said. A 73-year-old man, who drove one of the three vehicles, was also injured and flown to Shock Trauma. Police did not indicate his specific status in a Wednesday afternoon press release.
A significant portion of U.S. Route 50 near Chapel Road was closed for multiple hours Wednesday as Maryland State Police and Easton officers investigated the crash, authorities said.
Just before 4 p.m., the highway reopened in both directions.
Around 3:45 p.m., the highway remained closed in both directions as crews finished cleaning up. Multiple vehicles were placed on tow trucks, including a significantly damaged truck with the Town of Easton seal on its driver side door.
Drivers heading eastbound on Route 50 were redirected at the highway’s intersection with the Easton Parkway. Even as the highway reopened, traffic was backed up on Route 662, Easton Parkway and North Washington Street around 4 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing, police said. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information is asked to contact the Easton Police Department at 410-822-1111.
