EASTON — The stands were cleared part way through the third quarter of Easton High School's football game against Colonel Richardson High School Friday evening.
Talbot County Sheriff Joe Gamble said fans were asked to leave after the sheriff's office received a tip that someone may have brought a handgun to the game.
Gamble said that deputies were already on the scene to provide security services during the game. As the deputies approached the area where the handgun was reported to have been located, several fans began to run toward the exits yelling that there was a gun, he said.
Deputies did not recover a gun at the scene, Gamble said. No injuries were reported.
After a 20-minute break, the game resumed with no spectators in the stands.
Gamble said the sheriff's office is still looking for witnesses as it investigates the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 410-822-1020 or email sheriff@talbotcountymd.gov.
