ST. MICHAELS — Dog park discussion continue in St. Â鶹´«Ã½.
At the Wednesday Commissioners of St. Â鶹´«Ã½ meeting, the commissioners announced that there will be special sessions in the future to discuss all things dog park and to pick a location that makes sense for all residents of the town.
While determining the master plan for San Domingo Creek Park construction, discussion arose about a dog park being included in the master plan. The commissioners decided not to include a dog park in the plan.
One of the reasons brought forward at the meeting Wednesday was that if dog park plans were added to the master plan, the grant received from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources could be pulled back.
“We have to identify what works best for the dog park, what works best for all stakeholders,†Commissioners President Jay Hudson said. “So we have to take into accounts our DNR obligations and trying to find the best place that works. It’s going to be community input, and that’s really going to be what drives where it goes.â€
Residents voiced their opinions about where the dog park should or shouldn’t be located.
The commissioners want to take into account multiple factors when decided the location of the dog park, including cost of building and maintenance, liability concerns, who is allowed to use the park and the less amount of people affected by the noise and traffic.
Town Manager Don Richardson, who started in the position earlier this year, has experience with creating a dog park in Easton.
“So I think we are actually a lot better off having somebody who has that experience and is able to ask the questions that we don’t really know to ask quite yet,†Hudson said.
While no date has been set, the commissioners will announce the dates for the special sessions about the potential dog park.
