STEVENSVILLE — A Kent Island resident has been nominated as a 2025 Visionary of the Year candidate for the nationally-recognized Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The Visionaries of the Year campaign is an annual nationwide competition in which participants have 10 weeks to raise funds in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission to improve the quality of life for blood cancer patients and their families, and the ultimate goal, to cure blood cancer.
Kent Island resident Brittany Timms was recognized by a peer as a community leader in the area and was nominated to run as a candidate in this year’s campaign — and is the only candidate representing the Eastern Shore community.
“To get local businesses involved, we have crafted the Neighbors for Tomorrow initiative, an opportunity for our small community to come together and show the world the strength and compassion we have as a small town when we unite for a cause,†she said.
From March 20 to May 30, Timms and her campaign team, Cure Chasers, are aiming to reach their fundraising goal of $200,000.
“Why did I take on this rewarding challenge?†Timms said. “My grandmother, Janet Leichling, was diagnosed with blood cancer in early 2024. Thanks to the groundbreaking research and FDA-approved treatments funded by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, she is now in remission. Her story, though, is just one of many. My team and I are committed to raising funds that will not only advance research for better treatments but, ultimately, help us wipe out cancer altogether.â€
Visionaries of the Year has helped invest more than $1.8 billion in cutting-edge research worldwide, fueling nearly every critical advancement in blood cancer treatment that spans the most promising cancer research. For 75 years, LLS has been making measurable progress across each of its mission focus areas of research, patient support, and advocacy, according to Timms.
NEIGHBORS FOR TOMORROW
As the only candidate representing the Eastern Shore, Timms is asking for the community to band together and show the world how Kent Island shows up for those in need.
