ST. MICHAELS — A historic 1935 racing yacht will return to Maryland waters next week after spending nearly five years away.
Lady Patty, built on Solomons Island, will arrive in St. Â鶹´«Ã½ between 9 and 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, making a procession through downtown along Talbot Street.
St. Â鶹´«Ã½ Sailing Charters is inviting the public to watch the yacht’s arrival at its new home port.
The wooden yacht competed in major offshore races during its early career, including a St. Petersburg-Havana victory in the Southern Ocean Racing Conference and the Transpacific Yacht Race from San Francisco to Hawaii. Lady Patty sailed through the Panama Canal to reach the Pacific competition.
From 1995 to 2020, the yacht operated as a charter vessel from Tilghman Island. After her 2020 sale, she spent four seasons in Nantucket before returning to the Chesapeake Bay.
The yacht accommodates up to 13 passengers and retains its original wooden cockpit, wheel and mast.
