EASTON — The Cover Your Chin for Charity (CYCC) will be kicking off on Friday, Oct. 16, and the men participating will be shaving their facial hair and growing it until Jan. 17, when they will be judged at the Waterfowl Festival building on Harrison Street in Easton.
CYCC was founded in 2013 by three beard-growing dads in Easton while they were watching their kids play soccer. Men grow their beards while collecting donations and then display them on stage in front of their friends, neighbors and a panel of judges. This is the third year the event is taking place.
The donations collected go to benefit local charities for kids, veterans and pets. In the last two years, CYCC raised more than $20,000.
This year the four charities are Character Counts Mid Shore, MHATC Emergency Veterans Fund, Pet Pantry and Critchlow Adkins Children’s Center.
The CYCC was organized to create a greater awareness in the community of those in need.
“Due to the generous donation from Cover Your Chin for Charity, in the first nine months of 2015, we were able to directly help 13 veterans,†said Jackie Davis, executive director of MHATC Veterans Emergency Fund. “That assistance included rent payments to enable veterans to stay in their homes, car repairs, heating oil and a hot water tank for a Korean War veteran who had run out of options for help.â€
Last year’s competition categories consisted of beard, mustache and partial and there was also a King of Fundraising award.
