Average gasoline prices in Maryland have risen 1.5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.00 per gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 2,167 stations in Maryland. Prices in Maryland are 0.4 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 55.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has decreased 0.9 cents in the last week and stands at $3.549 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Maryland was priced at $2.75 per gallon Sunday while the most expensive was $3.65 per gallon, a difference of 90.0 cents per gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has risen 6.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.08 per gallon today. The national average is down 1.6 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 42.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
“For the first time in over a month, the national average price of gasoline has risen, driven by the final step in the transition to summer gasoline across wide portions of the country,†said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
Historical gasoline prices in Maryland and the national average going back 10 years:
March 24, 2024: $3.56 per gallon (U.S. Average: $3.51 per gallon)
March 24, 2023: $3.27 per gallon (U.S. Average: $3.41 per gallon)
March 24, 2022: $3.80 per gallon (U.S. Average: $4.24 per gallon)
March 24, 2021: $2.83 per gallon (U.S. Average: $2.86 per gallon)
March 24, 2020: $2.12 per gallon (U.S. Average: $2.05 per gallon)
March 24, 2019: $2.64 per gallon (U.S. Average: $2.62 per gallon)
March 24, 2018: $2.63 per gallon (U.S. Average: $2.60 per gallon)
March 24, 2017: $2.29 per gallon (U.S. Average: $2.29 per gallon)
March 24, 2016: $2.02 per gallon (U.S. Average: $2.01 per gallon)
March 24, 2015: $2.39 per gallon (U.S. Average: $2.42 per gallon)
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices:
Baltimore: $2.99 per gallon, up 1.7 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.97 per gallon.
Washington, D.C.: $3.12 per gallon, down 1.9 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.14 per gallon.
Hagerstown: $2.89 per gallon, up 7.0 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.82 per gallon.
De Haan said the increase this past week has nothing to do with politics or tariffs.
“(The increase) is instead the result of seasonality, and is something that happens almost every year,†he said. “Concerns over refinery maintenance have been muted so far this year, largely due to broader concerns about the U.S. economy, and demand remains soft. However, for those in the northeastern U.S. who have enjoyed relatively low gas prices compared to the national average, the final step in the transition to summer gasoline is still a few weeks away. Once it occurs, they too will likely see prices rise. For areas that have already completed the switch, ongoing economic uncertainty will likely prevent further major increases — for now.â€
