RIDGELY — Twenty-five years of tradition continued for the Ridgely Lion Club when they hosted the Ridgely Parade on Saturday.
Hundreds of Caroline County residents stood outside in freezing temperatures to see more than 35 floats participate in the holiday parade.
“It feels wonderful to host an event like this,†Brett Meyers of the Ridgely Lions Club said. “The Lions Club has been having this Saturday evening Christmas parade for about 25 years now. We feel it is it truly a small town event and we like to keep it a small town feel.â€
Unlike some parades that require a pre-signup, the Lions Club allows residents to drive up and participate in the parade.
“We have an open registration process where all participants have to do is show up, put their information on an index card, and then we will announce them in the parade. There are no judges, we just want people to come out and participate,†Meyers said.
The Lions Club receives help from multiple Caroline County municipalities, Myers said their help is key to having a successful event.
“The Town of Ridgely is always supportive of our efforts,†Meyers said. “They provide a PA system for us to announce our parade with, loan us the Santa suit, traffic control, etc. we also have great partners in the Ridgely Historical Society who allows us to use the port train station to visit with Santa and from the Caroline County Sheriffs Office. It’s a great partnership all the way around. Thank you to everyone in the community for coming out and for helping with the event.â€
